Day 1 Arrive Vancouver Arrive at the Vancouver International Airport and transfer to your hotel downtown. Your local guide will meet you at the hotel, go over the plans for the next few days, answer any questions you may have, deliver your food and campstove fuel, take you on a walking tour of the downtown area, and recommend some great local restaurants for dinner.
Day 2 Drive to trailhead Pick up your rental car and drive east out of Vancouver for three hours to E.C. Manning Provincial Park. The route takes you out of Vancouver on the historic Trans-Canadian Highway, then onto the smaller Crowsnest Highway, and into the park. Enjoy stopping at the few interesting local sightseeing spots along the way--the village of Hope, where the original Rambo movie was filmed, and, for those who aren't afraid of heights, the rushing rapids at Hell's Gate. Park at the trailhead and hike 5km through alpine meadows to your first wilderness campsite.
Day 3 E.C. Manning Park hike You wake up this morning to the signature sound of Canada: mountain silence. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast--just make sure to guard your meal from curious marmots and whiskeyjack birds. Today's hike takes you through 18km of alpine meadows, which are carpeted in brilliant wildflowers during July and early August. The last part of the trail takes you down from a ridge overlooking Nicomen Lake to a lakeshore wilderness campsite.
Day 4 E.C. Manning Park hike Today's walk takes you from Nicomen Lake out to the trailhead at Cayuse Flats (17km). Unlace your boots and take a quick dip in the glacier-fed river before transferring by prearranged taxi back to your car at the original trailhead and driving back west to the town of Harrison Hot Springs. Enjoy a soak in the naturally heated baths at the Harrison Hot Springs resort and dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 5 Return to Vancouver After feasting on the gourmet breakfast on offer at the resort, you can check out the famous Harrison Lake sandcastle competiiton, take a few fly fishing lessons or stroll around town before driving back into Vancouver for a relaxing dinner cruise around Vancouver Harbour.
Day 6 Depart Vancouver You can depart anytime after check-out, or book a few more nights in Vancouver to explore more of this lively city. If your legs are up for it, we can arrange a half-day cycling tour of the Fraser River Delta, or, if you've really built up stamina in the mountains, a guided hike up the legendary Grouse Grind trail. Just let us know what you want to do!
